The Unknown Photographer's Boot

The Unknown Photographer's Boot, originally uploaded by Bowman!.

Our first roll is back from the lab!

It would seem camera #1 landed somewhere in the Bricktown district of Oklahoma City. These photographs show us a day in the life of a fellow Oklahoman. We don't know who they are. I wound guess they are a groundskeeper for the City. We do know that these photographs show us the beauty and uniqueness of the Bricktown Canal.

The chance that a disposable camera, taped with stamps and instructions, could land where someone would find it and then use it to capture a moment and time is amazing.

It is even more astonishing that they took the time to mail the camera back share with anyone and everyone.

Thanks Indeed.

#1

It would seem as though Christmas came a little early this year. After we had all but given up on our experiment, the mail delivered to us one of our launched cameras! Off to develop the film now and we will post what we discover tomorrow! If you took part, or mailed our camera, we here at 321 Launch Camera! want to say thanks. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

An unfortunate turn of events?

It has been nearly a month since we launched our first volley of cameras in downtown Oklahoma City. Sadly, none of our chickens have come home to roost. I have to admit that I am both disappointed and confused. Did people pick up cameras - take photos and then just keep them? Was the US Postal Service to blame? As with any experiment we had a hypothesis - in our case it was that people would find a camera for free, make some photographs, pass the photo's along and mail them to us so that we could post them to share. The whole point is to prove that it is possible to complete an altruistic collaborative art project locally. I still think that is a valid hypothesis and our ideas and intentions are good.

We will just have to go at it again and again....

The Launch - a set on Flickr

The Message, the launch rig and the postage. From the sortie of 4 balloons launched last week, we know that at least 3 balloons were found and retrieved. Now we are waiting for the cameras to come back in the mail. Will they arrive? What photographs will show up? It's all a matter of chance.

Today is the Day! 10-10-09

Welcome to the 321 Launch Camera Project!

321 Launch Camera is a photography project. We have designed this project to work as a collaborative effort. Bringing strangers, coincidence and change together to create a photography portfolio.

Today, 10-10-09 we are launching 4 cameras in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Our hope is that people find these cameras, take pictures and pass them along to others before they are dropped into the mail and sent back to us. It could be a while before or if any cameras get back to us. Talk about anticipation!

We will be updating this blog often so check back soon.
